it's been a while since i last wrote here..my bad...am sorry =(..but anyhow...about the rally

i have to say that at the very beginning..it was becuz it's the year of the youth that we're having this rally..part n partial of it cuz it wasn't year of the youth but we had it las year tho...

but no...we're not doin becuz the adults wanted it...there were clashing of dates and stuff...if it was the adults then we wuld hav juz followed n did wateva they wan us to do...but i see determination in us because we stood by our stand over some stuff...becuz we wanna do it

the rally is not only for non-christians but it can come in as a boost for those who r goin dry...as our theme says...ONE FOR ALL- for those who has yet to know about how Jesus died for us and ALL IN ONE- when we are christian...we are one with God...

right now, what we need most is prayer from anyone...pls do pray for us that God will protect us against hindrances...for all we know...when we try to do something and get closer to God...the devil will get naughty n try to keep us down n disappointed with all sorta strategies...
but we know that Jesus holds us securely and the evil one cannot get hold of us(1 john 5:18)..right?He promised us tat..n i believe His word..so let's trust Him together n let Him lead now...

sometimes we tend to get distracted by our own glory and responsibility tat we forgot we're doing this for God...but we shuld really keep our mind focus that it is becuz of God...we're doin tis...

it doesn't matter if the way we behave outside is not-so-like-a-christian...God accepts it...becuz we know we're not perfect..God is refining us...tats where God comes in...we're not good enuf...He polishes us...right?but at the same time we shuld be willing to submit n let Him do the polishin...

as for reaching out with worship...tats y we hav message in the middle...in fact the MORE important part of the rally is the message...n we r trying to get songs with words tat are meaningful, not juz nice...songs tat can tell others what really happened n how we can come before Him...when they do not know the song...they can look at the lyrics which is better...they can focus on the words...not just the music..

n besides,in our rally, we hav ice breakers n stuff rite?fun together..we gonna jump n jam around..with all the music instruments...tho its not the point of it (absulotely)...at least these non-christian frenz of ours they know what youth group is really all about...we're exposing them to a christian atmosphere..to let them know there's a free place to hang around..to hav frenz..hav great fun..they can also learn up cool instruments like guitars n drums to play with(a lot of ppl might not hav this opportunity to do so outside the church becuz not everybody can afford these)..at least tis is a much much better place then to waste their money n time at cyber cafes doin ntg rite?

another thing we noe is tat the world outside our church...people think being a christian is being brain-washed by priests n tat goin to church is listenin to boring talks...but thru rallies...we r telling them no tis is not all about n wat it's like to be a christian at all..

so, i, for one believe God is working and He is with us...do you believe?

Youth Rally July 1st. Why?

Greetings all. Heard from variou MYFers that a Youth Rally is being held on the 1st of June.
i got a question to ask though.

Why are you holding a Youth Rally? What is it's purpose?

Yeah, i know this sounds forward, but i think it's an important issue to be thought through and that you guys know sincerely why you are doing this. Sorry if i've been kinda annoying on this blog.

This could lead to an interesting discussion.

After being saved, we should also continue to grow in maturity like is said in philipians 3:12-14.

About why we should study, Jesus grew in wisdom too? In Luke 2:52. My opinion, in studying we can also learn bout God's power and work in the universe and also in our lives from past to present.

Some people say 'why should we make a fuss about Da Vinci Code? its just pure fiction!' .... So why talk about it? sincerely wanting to know you peeps' opinions...

salvation can't be lost

In my opnion, based on the Bible, salvation cannot be lost if a person truely and sincerely accepts abd recieves Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour. Hebrews 13:5 "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you" God forgave ALL our sins; past, present and future. Colossians 2:13-14 " .....He forgace us all our sins, having cancelled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross." 1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness" Then, some may ask "If that were so, I can continue sinning because my sins in the past, present and future forgiven already what...."
WRONG!!! Romans 6:1-2 " What shall we say then? Shall we go on sinning, so that grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?" As you read on Romans 6, it explains further. 1 John 3:9-10 puts it very nicely...I love it! It says, "No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in him; he cannot go one sinning, because he has been born of God. This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother." We may still sin at times because we are imperfect. But we must not sin on purpose with the full knowledge that is sin. But if we do sin and come to repentance, hear what Scripture says: 1 John 2:1 " ....But if anyone does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense- Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. " In addition to all these, this verse in the Gospel of John says it all. John 10:28 " My Father, who has given them to me , is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand." It says no-one can snatch us away from God's hands-NO-ONE!! This is the conclusion. A person who genuinely with all his heart receives Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour cannot lose his salvation.

Right......here we go....It would be helpful if some of you guys posted questions and stuff, you know. It's not easy to think of things for good discussions.

Anyways, this is a good topic to discuss, I think.

Why should we do well in our studies? Do studies even matter? We're all going to die, right? So why study? What is the point? People in Jesus' time didn't have compulsory schooling. Jesus didn't. He was just a carpenter's son. Since Jesus didn't go to school, should we?

That's pretty much it. Have fun thinking my peeps

I'm sorry if the way I put it caused you to misunderstand what I was trying to say…but I by no means at all am trying to say that if we tell others the Good News and if they don’t buy it…we become the cause of their downfall…nonono…that’s definitely not what I’m trying to say…I’m replying that as a respond to lipsing’s comment…and that I agree with him...in fact we should tell people and sow seeds everywhere...

it is not as easy as we think to enter His Kingdom because the gate is very, very narrow. God emphasized on work hard to get in because many will try but not all will succeed.

Vernie, the Bible does say that we are saved by faith and faith alone. Then again, God says in Revelation that he will spit our of his mouth all those who are lukewarm. I'll leave it to you to decide what lukewarm means. I know these ideas are kinda semi-contradictory. But they have to be taken into context of the modern day. Life isn't objective. Certain passages apply in different ways to different situations. We must remember however that God will never compromise on his standards. Some things are subject to situation, yet some cannot be argued with.
About the thing about us being blamed for other people's condemnation to hell. God told one of the prophets, I can't remember which, that it will only be the fault of the prophet that Israel is not saved because the prophet does not tell them to stop doing evil and turn back to God. But if the prophet preaches God's message to the Israelites, God would not hold the prophet accountable. The prophet did his job. It was the people who rejected God.
We are not the cause of the damnation of those who go to hell if we tell them the message of salvation. We are only the cause of their eternal suffering if we do not preach the gospel to them. It's not our fault that the people reject God and God knows this.
About the thing about people having no excuse for not knowing God, it must be read with reality in mind. It would be unrealistic to say that all the blame for their damnation rests on the shoulders of those who do go to hell. They have parents who believe in other religions which are false and so on. What Romans is referring to is people who have never heard of any religion at all, or that's what I think. You can't blame someone for believing in another religion and not in Jesus Christ if he has been indoctrinated since the time he was born that only his religion true and all other religions are false. God understands that. However, I don't think that God will allow a person who has never heard the gospel (yet is completely given over to his religion) into heaven.
The philosopher Descartes who was a good Christian says that the reason why people believe in such things as gods and make up things to be their gods is because we were created with a God shaped whole in our lives. Actually the bible did say something about ppl-who-have-never-heard-about-God.
Read Romans 1:18-25
For the truth about God is known to them instinctively. God has put this knowledge in their hearts. Romans 1:19
So they have no excuse whatsoever for not knowing God. Rom 1:20b

If you read the whole context it is actually very clear that if you don’t believe Jesus, you go right down. Period.

Maybe that’s what it means by what wei-on quoted as “them condemning themselves”?

Actually all these while I’ve got this thinking too that if you do good you should end up in heaven and you will be given the last chance at the gate-to heaven. Like wei-on said it does sound bias that if you don’t believe in Jesus you end up in hell even though you did kind and good stuff all your life.

But it wasn’t until JUST NOW that this suddenly struck me.
Why do we even have such thinking that good people should be in heaven?
Aren’t we SUPPOSED to be kind and good at the first place? In other word, being kind and good is what we are meant to be.
Does it entitle us a license then to go heaven just because we have been what we are supposed to be at the very first place?

Besides, if that is the case then it would be the end of us wouldn’t it?
John 8:7 -"If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her."
Nobody is without sin, so nobody is “good people”. Then heaven must has been a really quiet and deserted place, hasn’t it?

Indeed the ONLY way to heaven is Jesus, not by just doing good.

Can we boast, then, that we have done anything to be accepted by God? No, because our acquittal (liberation/forgiveness/pardon/freedom) is not based on our good deeds. It is based on our faith. Rom 3:27

And that, made it very, very clear, crystal clear.

But yet again, it doesn’t mean that faith alone is all what we need to have. No point having only faith in God but do stuff that is against Him right?

So you see, it isn't enough just to have faith. Faith that doesn't show itself by good deeds is no faith at all--it is dead and useless. James 2:17

So it's kind of faith-good deeds are clung together.

Lipsing has got a really good point there. What’s the point of sharing the Good News, then when they refuse; we become the cause of them going to hell? Oops.

For about the question whether a believer can lose his/her salvation, I myself am not quite about because I’m kinda wondering too.

God’s salvation is of course, eternal but what we do might turn us away from God. And when we turn away from Him, we lose our salvation right? I really don’t know but does it apply?

I can’t find any scriptures yet that explains that. But:

Not all people who sound religious are really godly. They may refer to me as `Lord,' but they still won't enter the Kingdom of Heaven. The decisive issue is whether they obey my Father in heaven. On judgment day many will tell me, `Lord, Lord, we prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.' But I will reply, `I never knew you. Go away; the things you did were unauthorized. Matt 7:21-23

Only God alone will decide where we end is it not?

The Bible does tell us that Jesus is the way, the truth and the light. More importantly, it says that Jesus is the only way. Emphasis on only.
Non-believers haven't really lost salvation. They never truly had it in the first place.
I know it sounds bias that Jesus is the only way and those who do not believe in Jesus are condemned to death. However, as one pastor put it, it is not so much the people being condemned to death as them condemning themselves. This is my version of what he said by the way, with slightly altered terminology and tone, sort of.
This is because Jesus has promised to accept everyone who calls on his name. As God, he will never go back on his promises. Therefore, no one can claim, except of course if they have never heard the gospel, that Jesus rejected them. He clearly says he will accept them should they ask him too. Technically, this means that it is the person who rejects Jesus, as it is impossible, after a fashion, for Jesus to reject anyone who calls on his name. He loves us too much.
As for those who have never heard the gospel, I have truly no idea what happens to them. It was a topic of discussion for my cell group here in Singapore and we kinda decided that it must be subjective. For example, I highly doubt that God would accept a witch doctor completely given over to his arts. I believe that God might save a person who has lived a good life but has never accepted him because the person never heard the gospel. But this is a personal belief, because it makes sense to me. You don't have to believe this.
Sorry bout the lack of exact locations of the verses in the Bible. My Bible knowledge is still really lousy.

Like what the brochure already said, we watched the video Christianity: Boring, Untrue & Irrelevant? by Nicky Gumble. It was hilarious but unfortunately, it is very hard to randomly pick a few funny jokes and post them up here, if you get what I mean.

Oh wait, there’s one.
Nicky Gumble was sharing about this lady whose English wasn’t really that good.
Then there was this one time, she was pretty “pumped up” over something and wanted to ask,
“What on earth are you doing?!”
But instead, she asked,
"What are you doing on Earth?!”
So she had indirectly changed the whole phrase into a very good question.

What are you doing on Earth?

Christianity: Boring?
Not really. Think again, which religion in the world is persecuted most?
Being Christians, we tend to have many, or more challenges in life;
- From God: He tests our faith and through trial itself, He matures us.

- From the Devil: Undoubtedly, this fella will ever try failing us so we might lose our faith in God. Stupidly enough, he even tried challenging Jesus. Nice try. But c’mon Mr. Devil, get a life!

- From people around us: you might not experience it yet. But people do give you this “weird” look sometimes when they find that you’re “on fire” for God. They think we are the “Holy maniacs”. Seriously.

- From ourselves. Oh yes, we do struggle a lot in this area. In fact, this is one of the biggest challenge we face everyday.
Say, telling a white lie to get yourself away from troubles.
One part of you says “NO” because God says we cannot lie.
The other part of you says “WHY NOT?” It won’t kill anybody telling a small white lie once in a while, would it?
Now, which of these would you possibly choose to follow, honestly?

- Boring? Our youth group has got lots of crazy, funny and silly games going around throughout the year, haven’t we? We have outings to places then we starting messing up the place. They were fun, weren’t they? Our retreats to various places around Malaysia had been great, hadn’t they?

- Many, many stories in the bible actually left us taken aback and amazed when we read them, didn’t they?

I don’t, not even for a second, think Christianity is boring. In fact, it’s EXCITING in any ways.

Conclusion: Christianity is not boring – it is about living life to the fullest.

Christianity: untrue?
This is a part where only you can tell yourself and only God can show you. Try Him. You can never imagine what He can do. Even at the very moment you feel that He is most absent, He is actually there right next to you but you just can never tell.

Conclusion: Christianity – it is the truth.

Christianity: irrelevant?
Without God, life is like a broken pencil… pointless!
Won't you agree?

Q1:what motivates my actions? when i do something, i get others' attetion and compliments, makes me feel bangga and accepted, so i continue on doing lo. that's how i tend to gain my identity lo. At times i also copy what others do because i admire them mar.

for me, as i develope a deeper relationship with God, i become more sensitive to the Holy Spirit. He convicts me of my sins, makes me feel bad or guilty and dont wanna do what is unpleasing to Him. When i've been convicted of committing sins, i'll confess my sins so that satan wont have a hold in my life. Trusting His goodness, which is for my own good, i do what he asks me to do. What actually motivates me, is to want to have a close relationship with Him, and that He'll be pleased with me. But still, because of my sinful nature, i struggle to obey His commands.

Well...i can't say that I live my life perfectly. Rom 3:23 "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God" But I know and believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins and for the sins of the world. Therefore, the best I can offer God is my life. So, I try to live a life that is pleasing to Him. I may at times fall into sin but when I repent and confess my sins, he will forgive me. 1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness" So, in all my actions, thought and speech, I try with the help of the Holy Spirit to make sure all those are pleasing to God. I also depend on the Holy Spirit to help me sort out my emotions so that I will not be mastered by them. I might at times fail but I know and believe that God forgives my shortcomings and will pick me up. Well...thats what I got to share for now. :) God bless!!

I see a bunch of youth coming to the MYF EVERY week without fail.

But HONESTLY, very honestly, I DON’T see a bunch of CHRISTIAN youth in us.

God? Who is He? The Creator. God, the BIG fella up there. PERIOD.

What did you do? What are you doing that actually tells people: I LOVE GOD AND I WANT TO LIVE FOR HIM.

I doubt if all the MYFers actually think of living for God. Leave alone telling others?

I’m not trying to condemn my own youth group here because I am part of the MYF as well.

But I am sick and tired and fed up seeing the same old dead bunch of us every week. I have been telling you all. I actually spoke a few weeks back.

WE HAVE TO CHANGE.

MYF NEEDS MORE THAN JUST YOUR PRESENCE.
MYF NEEDS YOUR COMMITMENT AND YOUR HEART.

2nd answer: I can't say tat I followed each and every of what the bible told me to do. Well, at least I try to follow as much as I can. It’s hard. Sometimes very hard. But God tells us to do what that is best.
Psalm 85: 12 says
God will indeed give what is good
Psalm 111:7 says
God does everything just and good and His commandments are trustworthy

Not because this is what God says so and therfore, we can't but to, we MUST follow.
It is more importantly, because what God tells us to do is undoubtedly the best way to live the best life.
It is for us not just Him at the end of the day.

God has created humanity with the ability to choose. This means that we are not forced into a relationship with Him. He allows us to reject Him and to commit other evil acts as well. He could force us to be loving. He could force us to be good. But then what kind of relationship would we have with Him? It would not be a relationship at all, but a forced, absolutely controlled obedience. Instead He gave us the human dignity of free will.

Bible study topic 1

Wurd up my friends. Due to popular demand, I'll try and run a Bible study here. Someone please tell the counsellors so that they can monitor this and we won't stray off the truth.

Anyways, I'm gonna try and make this as active as possible. Which means that those who wanna participate are going to have to go and read their Bibles and do their homework. (By the way, I think we should do this by just posting comments to each topic. It will be more convenient).

First question: Why do you live the way that you do ? What motivates your actions? Is there a reason why you choose to do certain things? Share. This is a personal question, so you don't have to go and read through the Bible for the answer to this one obviously.

Second question...........the one that we're going to disucuss:
Why should we do what the Bible tells us too? Aside from the fact that the Bible is the Word of God, I mean. What motivates you to follow the laws and rules for our lives in the Bible to the extent that you do?

I know that this is a really wide topic. It won't be easy to discuss, so we'll just all think and talk about it for a week or two before I post the next topic, unless someone else wants to post the next topic. But a brief history. This question was posed by one of my friends. It's important as finding a reason why we should follow what the Bible says will be excellent impetus and encouragement for us to live Biblical, holy lives. However, no matter what we learn through this time, we have to remember that our Christian lives are to be lives of faith, something based completely on trust, not on solid evidence that we can see with our eyes or rationality. Don't get too caught up in the topic, but take time to think seriously about it. I'll start posting in a day or two, after you guys have had time to check this out. All the best in your reflections and thoughts. God bless all. I'm praying that God will grant all of us wisdom as we start this Bible study, and I hope that you are praying with me. = )

Message: Seeing Lite From the Lord

Aunty Lay Ean began her message by triggering the MYFers with a relatively mind-boggling question of:
How do you see your life?

She then asked a few of us to share our answers with the rest. Each had different perceptions about how they viewed life as.

Gavin pictured life as a maze and we will never know what is ahead of us. If we insist to walk alone we may face the possibility of choosing the wrong path to meet the dead end.

Lip Ee described that life is like a roller coaster, with a lot of ups and downs along the way.

Siew Vern on the other hand said that life is sometimes like a play where we have to act so to not upset or offend other parties.

Joshua depicted life as a fast moving one way arrow that once we have passed there will be no return anymore. However Christians live a more purposeful life as we are arrows that are heading to somewhere instead of moving blindly to an unknown direction.

Michele thinks life is wonderful as long as we don’t walk out of His light.

Jonathan compared life to a story. There are many different chapters and characters in it.

Ian metaphorically described life as a ship on a huge ocean. There are many ships around ours, with some not knowing where to go, some decided to just follow wherever other ships are going without knowing where they are heading to while the rest heading to a intended destination.

Audrey Percival viewed life as a game because there are many challenges along the way and that we have to be wise enough to choose the right solutions in order to solve them.

Aunty Lay Ean then explained to us on how the bible views life as.
Biblically,

A life is a test.
God tests us with- trials, temptations, conflicts, disappointment, weather, anger, etc.
God tests our- character, faith in Him, obedience, love for Him, integrity, loyalty
God tests us to refine us.

1 Corinthians 10:13- But remember that the temptations that come into your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can't stand up against it. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you will not give in to it.
There is no need to worry that God will fail us when He is testing us. Instead, trust in Him and everything will be fine.
A good example can be taken from the book of Genesis, where God tested Abraham.
He is to sacrifice his one and only conceived-at-very-old-age son, Isaac. He did it without any hesitation because of his faith in God. But God stopped him in the nick of time because God didn't really intend to take his son afterall. God only wanted to test him.

A life is a trust.
As in trust in our- talents, money, time How we deal with these gifts and talents that God has blessed us with.
1 Corinthians 4: 7- What makes you better than anyone else? What do you have that God hasn’t given you? And if all you have is from God, why boast as though you have accomplished something on your own?

A life is a temporary assignment.
Thou we may live to as long as a hundred years old, our life span is very short as compared to eternity.

Say, a drying line.
It may look as though it is firmly planted into the ground and is strong enough to withstand the heavy weight that will be hung on it. But the effectiveness of this line can only be tested when the real heavy cloth is laid on it.

Some of you gotta be asking what this blog really is for (like someone there's already scratching his head).

Well, this is our very own MYF blog to update everyone about the latest news or events which are happening in MYF and among the MYFers themselves. Besides that, we definitely are very excited to share with the world what we, the Ipoh MYFers, are all about and what we do every other Sunday mornings.

As we are all well aware of, we have our Ipoh MYFers scattered all over around the globe from down south Australia to as far as the United Kingdom and up north Russia. Of course we are not forgetting those who are now settling in our neighbouring countries and islands as well as those who are studying or working outstations. Noone should be left out! Let alone those who are here among us with the MYF every other Sunday.

For those who are abroad, whether overseas or outstations alike: As you are always a part of us, surely we want to know what's been up with you on the other side of the planet and we suppose you too want to know what is going on back here in your hometown. Well, it's important to be a brother's keeper afterall, isn't it?

So, this is where our blog plays its role in connecting and keeping touch with one another and so forth like it was mentioned earlier, to share our story with the world.

We plan to have our very own domain in the beginning and it is still part of our plan. However, seeing that creating a domain is rather time consuming, why not start this off with a free yet easily available, accessible and managable blog first in the mean time?

We hope you'll be a frequent visitor to keep things going. No point having this blog if none of you bother to even check it to kill it right?

Everyone can contribute in one way or another to this blog in regardless to whether you are an MYFer or not.
