Bible study topic 1
Wurd up my friends. Due to popular demand, I'll try and run a Bible study here. Someone please tell the counsellors so that they can monitor this and we won't stray off the truth.Anyways, I'm gonna try and make this as active as possible. Which means that those who wanna participate are going to have to go and read their Bibles and do their homework. (By the way, I think we should do this by just posting comments to each topic. It will be more convenient).
First question: Why do you live the way that you do ? What motivates your actions? Is there a reason why you choose to do certain things? Share. This is a personal question, so you don't have to go and read through the Bible for the answer to this one obviously.
Second question...........the one that we're going to disucuss:
Why should we do what the Bible tells us too? Aside from the fact that the Bible is the Word of God, I mean. What motivates you to follow the laws and rules for our lives in the Bible to the extent that you do?
I know that this is a really wide topic. It won't be easy to discuss, so we'll just all think and talk about it for a week or two before I post the next topic, unless someone else wants to post the next topic. But a brief history. This question was posed by one of my friends. It's important as finding a reason why we should follow what the Bible says will be excellent impetus and encouragement for us to live Biblical, holy lives. However, no matter what we learn through this time, we have to remember that our Christian lives are to be lives of faith, something based completely on trust, not on solid evidence that we can see with our eyes or rationality. Don't get too caught up in the topic, but take time to think seriously about it. I'll start posting in a day or two, after you guys have had time to check this out. All the best in your reflections and thoughts. God bless all. I'm praying that God will grant all of us wisdom as we start this Bible study, and I hope that you are praying with me. = )

Wurd up, peeps. Yahoo radio rocks. I am digressing. I shall try to use interesting language for my post. To make it more interesting to read. Yes, to improve my English as well so that I can get better results in school. =)
Why do I do things? I realised that being brought up in a pastor's family, a lot of my life is based on God and the Bible. I realised at YLDP in 2004 that a lot of things I take for granted are actually ways through which God is showing me his love and that I experience his love daily. This is through my friends, parents, siblings and sometimes even through strangers who just smile and say hi when they walk past. Due to this realisation, I decided to begin to do more things(this just recently) to bless other people. Like saying hi to the aunty cleaning the hostel and so on. Because I love God and he first loved me. It would be a pretty lousy love if I had it but didn't pass it on.
Another reason why I try and live my life in certain ways is to bring God glory. For example, trying(and i mean trying, not necessarily succeeding) to do well in my studies, so that I may use my results not for boasting rights but to give God glory. Another example would be trying not to use vulgarities in my speech. Why? Because it reflects well on me, which reflects well on Christianity, since most people who know me know that I am a Christian. I know I'm far from being perfect and I know you know that and that this sounds really self-righteous and I apologise for that.
What does the Bible say? In
1 Peter 3, we are told to live such good lives that though the non-believers accuse us of doing wrong, they will give God glory on the day when he returns.
This is quite siimple. Live good lives, obey the law, do what you're supposed to do, don't shirk your responsibilities that non-believers will thank and praise God for your life when God comes again. That they may see why we do things is because of the God we love.
The Bible tells us that God if our Father. We obey our parents, first of all because they're our parents and supposedly we love and respect them. So if we zoom out and take a look at the bigger picture, God is our supreme parent and therefore has even more right, in terms of hierachy, to be obeyed than our parents. This may mean going completely against your parents if what they say contradicts what we are taught in the Bible. Thankfully, our parents don't normally ask us to do bad things that would culminate in such a situation. As God is our father, we have a duty to obey him and live that way that he calls us too and we should also obey him out of the love we bear for him as God is our father and has blessed us in so many ways. Try and think of every blessing that you have received. I'm sure that for each blessing that you count, there is at least another that you missed.
The Bible tells us to love our neighbours. Why? So that we have a fallback system, someone we can turn to when we are in trouble? I don't think so. I believe it's cause God loved us first, so we should show this fact by loving those around us. We show that we're grateful to someone by being nice to a person who gave us something, right? Well, there is this theory that for every time we are helped or blessed, we go and help or bless three other people. Supposedly, this will change the whole world. I believe this is true and that the world would be changed if everyone applied it in their lives. Or just a third of the world's population. I'll let you do the maths. It''s practical and it's also a good witness that we have a God who loves us and everyone else as well. Since God loves anyone, what right do we have to hate anybody? I know that I do have lots of prejudices and people that I hate and that I always will be like this, cause I'm a pretty lousy, fatuous human being. But still we should remember that God never has and never will reject anybody no matter what happens and as we strive to be like God we should also try to love others and show them that God loves them. If we don't we are being selfish, which is not being God-like or very grateful for all that we have received.
I know that this is very long and that I have digressed at certain points. I also know that some people won't understand the way I relate certain things to the main topic, 'why do I live the way I do?' Sorry bout that. I hope that I have helped in some ways.
In conclusion, pray for each other, that we may be able to display a Christ-like life and love.
God bless all.
